I woke up this morning, and decided I was gonna sit down and make a killer Hellfire mod, only to find out someone beat me to it cry

Oh Well, I'd like to try yours, and maybe even help you out later(I have experience modding). However, I seem to be missing the file UI_Art\title.pcx

If you join The Hell development team that would be just great. We have a lot of work planned ahead. And the more people work on this thing the faster it will grow.

Yes, sorry if my post was worded poorly.

When I load the game, I see the DOS window, then the game starts, but I see nothing. When I press escape, it closes, and tells me the file could not load, or isn't there.

Make sure you have installed TH in full compliance with Readme file.
Proper installation gives no problems AFAIK

I extracted the rar into my hellfire, and ran Run_Hell.exe

Same problem *shrugs*

does your hellfire run on its own?

are the following files present in this folder: diabdat.mpq, hfmonk.mpq, hellfire.mpq?

was the mod bundle downloaded correctly (sometimes they are downloaded with errors) - check

I assume you have normal Hellfire, not some cutup downloaded from the suburbs of internet?

check all the files needed from Readme: are they ALL there?

if the game doesn't start then there must have been something wrong...

Yes, Hellfire runs on it's own.

However, I'm currently using an internet cut-up of hellfire, my disc is missing in action. Everything else was done right, I can only assume this is the problem.

Edit: As you know, it's not easy to replace a copy. sad

it really is. some have manually added missing files that the game complained about. only to reveal that the next time it would crash because of the other file missing.

there's a 90% chance that the problem is with some "wrong" DIABDAT.MPQ file

The Hell is meant to run on FULL release. Thus it needs genuine diabdat.mpq. Its size is approximately 493MB.

Without this you will most likely be unable to play.

however, there are many links to working Hellfire & Diablo versions on this forum. If you can use eMule or torrent, it's a no-brainer to download the game.

Oh crap, my Diabdat.mpq is 139mb's, seems we've found our problem...
I cannot read russian, so I if it's a russian topic, would you mind linking me directly to the torrent, thanks. biggrin

I tried Emule, but it won't connect, or rather, it's not connecting. I disabled my firewall, rerouted the proper ports, and still nothing...

I'll keep waiting on it.

Mostly D2 projects, helping others. I've never led a project, besides some minor modification, things like bossmods.

If theres anything you need in particular, I'd be happy to learn/study up on it. Assuming I've never done it before.

At the moment we are working on giving gladiators and assassins unique gfx.

Version 0.01 for gladiators can be downloaded from TH homepage. But the amounts of work are really staggering....

Its all about the visuals by the way. No code changing here.

Gladiators are based on warrior gfx. For now, maybe..

We use TDG23 utility to compile/decompile animation (.CEL & .CL2 formats).

At the moment another guy (Sh4rk) is working on giving gladiators lite armor two-mace attack animation. And I'm doing chain armor two-mace animation.

When you're through with downloading diabdat.mpq, search for Ladik's MPQ editor (if you dont have one). I use it to add and extract files from MPQ files. It is required for modding.

Oh yeah, nearly forgot, to modify gladiator's gfx you'll need the file of that animation. Download it.

Its extension is .MOR, however it works as .MPQ.

Extract all of its contents to some folder of yours to have easy access to that.

open the files with TDG and decide if you can help us manually edit those frames... specifically, we are working with animations from folders that end with 'S' and 'M'

I'd suggest to study TDG help for the beginning. it describes the basics. everything related to animation, to be more precise.

apart from TDG you need MS Paint to edit images there.

yea, plate + two maces would be nice. in case you dont know this animation is in GHM folder.

if you do something quick, like a sketch maybe. I'll give you some feedback on this.

types of animation that we change:

attack
neutral (in dungeon)
walk (in dungeon)
hit recovery

Ok, I just finally got the mod to work, playing it, and loving it. You weren't kidding when you said difficult. Yeesh.

Anyway, I'll get started with TDG tomorrow, learn the in's and out's, and we'll work from there.
